Liverpool have added SC Braga defender Sikou Niakaté to their list of potential options to replace Ibrahima Konaté if he leaves for Paris Saint-Germain.
That’s according to Africa Foot, who report that Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in the Braga centre-back ahead of a potentially busy summer.
They say that Niakaté has become one of the best players in his position in the past two seasons in the Primeira Liga and that’s earned the 25-year-old a growing list of admirers.
He’s being monitored by scouts from the Premier League and Liverpool are one of those to have watched him. Clubs in Serie A are also monitoring his development.
Th belief is that the defender has a profile that perfectly matches with Premier League football, hence the growing interest from England in signing him.
Manchester City and Manchester United have already been credited with an interest in the January transfer window, although neither ended up moving for him.
West Ham also expressed their interest in him last summer but were eventually scared off by Braga’s management setting their asking price at €30m.
Whether that price remains in place or if Liverpool would be willing to pay such a figure remains to be seen but they can now be added to Niakaté’s list of admirers.
