The agent for youngster Issahaku Abdul Fatawu is reportedly using Liverpool’s name to drive up interest in his client.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover the player to day and how a move to Bayer Leverkusen recently failed due to the agent’s actions.
They explain that the 17-year-old forward has ‘already been to Leverkusen’ to discuss a deal with the club and met with them at Lindner Hotel Bayarena.
However, despite that, they decided not to pursue a deal, and there were ‘good reasons’ for them to do so.
While they would have liked to do a deal as he’s a player who would have fit in perfectly, the club were suspicious of various things his agent was doing in the background.
Kicker say that an agreement was in place, but then there was an ‘unexpected turn’ on Wednesday when his agent cancelled the second and final meeting planned to seal the deal.
That is allegedly because the agent ‘wanted to meet’ representatives from Liverpool on the same day, a fact that was only discovered when said agent posted a video from his hotel room in which a conversation was heard in the background.
In this conversation, it was heard that a meeting in Portugal was planned for Wednesday afternoon, angering Leverkusen, who subsequently pulled out.
The newspaper says his approach clearly ‘has a method’ to it with him ‘peddling clubs’ such as Ajax, Dortmund and Liverpool since March to ‘drive up the price’ of his client.
Whether any of those clubs are interested isn’t mentioned, but Kicker do say that getting a move which is the best opportunity seems to be of ‘much less importance’ to him.
That suggests it’s all about money at this point, and this is a situation that Liverpool will want to avoid as much as possible.
