Liverpool have been in contact with RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecanos’s agent over a move to Anfield.

That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says they are also showing an interest in his defensive partner Ibrahima Konate.

It’s well established by now that the Reds are on the hunt for a new centre back, with the injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez exposing them in that area this season.

A high-profile move is not expected to happen this month but finding a long-term partner for the Dutchman is thought to be a top priority for the summer.

Numerous names across Europe have already been linked, and Upamecano is on the list.

The Frenchman has established himself as one of the best centre backs in Europe with Leipzig in recent years has a release clause of £38m set to activate in the summer.

That appears to have piqued the interest of Liverpool, who Falk says have been in contact with his agent about a potential move.

He is not the only one in Julian Nagelsmann’s side that Klopp and co are keen on, though, with him also reporting that Konate is a potential target.

Of course, this is nothing new with Falk having stated at the beginning of December that Konate was on their list as they considered him ‘financially affordable’.

It seems their interest has not gone away over the last month and Liverpool’s new centre back may end up arriving from Leipzig if they get their way.
