L’Equipe have a feature in their Friday edition on French internationals who could be swapping clubs during the January transfer window. There’s a whole group of players on the fringes of the France national squad who feel their career needs a reboot and could be hoping to move during the January window, as they look ahead to World Cup 2018.
One of those is of course Mamadou Sakho. The Liverpool defender has fallen foul of Jurgen Klopp more than perhaps any other player before, and the German manager made the decision a while ago that Sakho had to leave the club.
L’Equipe say there’s a 95% chance of the player leaving, and seem to suggest his current Liverpool situation is all because of the player’s ‘unjust’ punishment from UEFA.
The problem for Sakho is finding a club.
Given he’s known for so long that Klopp doesn’t want him at Liverpool, Sakho and his camp have been in the privileged position of being able to actively search for a new club, you’d think he’d have one by now.
On top of that, clubs around the world have been well aware that Sakho is available, so a deal just as the January window opened wouldn’t have been surprising. However, Sakho hasn’t been interested in the options presented to him so far.
