While a great honour to wear your country’s shirt during an international tournament, such events are also the chance for certain players to put their names out there if they are looking for a move elsewhere.
Another who certainly benefited from his stay in France is Köln’s left-back Jonas Hector.
The 26-year-old, playing borderline as a winger at times, was Joachim Löw’s first choice throughout the tournament and certainly impressed.
So much so, in fact, that Sport on Tuesday have a big article on the former Auersmacher man as they report Barcelona have given a move for him some thought over the past few weeks.
His ability to play as a central midfielder is also a plus, but the Catalan club will need to fend off interest from the Premier League if they are to get their man.
The Catalan newspaper claim the player’s agents have told Köln they are currently in possession of two offers from England: one from Liverpool, and the other from Tottenham.
The Bundesliga side have made it clear they would be willing to let him go, but only for a hefty price of €18m (£15.2m) as he has two years left on his contract.
With Danny Rose and Ben Davies already in their squad, Tottenham aren’t exactly in desperate need for a left-back, but Liverpool, Alberto Moreno aside, could certainly do with one.
