Earlier this month Liverpool were credited with an interest in Udinese owned goalkeeper Alex Meret. The 19 year old has been on loan at SPAL in Serie B and has been impressive this season, helping his side push towards promotion to Serie A.
Liverpool were said to be watching the player and his development, with Italian sides Inter Milan and Juventus also keen on the youngster.
Speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Meret has been asked what he’d prefer to do next. Be a deputy to someone like Gianluigi Buffon, move to another club (with Liverpool mentioned) or continue at a lower level.
“Better to play. Training with the champions is helpful and nice, but the game is more important.”
Meret worries that without regular playing time he would lose his sharpness and see his progression halted.
Liverpool will likely continue to watch the youngster’s development but there’s no suggestion of any move being in the offing soon.
