Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã today shares a little more insight on Liverpool’s chase for Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio.
Earlier this week, we’ve seen reports from the English media claiming the Reds want him to partner up with Virgil van Dijk in their defence.
Now the Portuguese outlet comes up to say that Inácio indeed ‘dreams’ of playing in the Premier League, although Liverpool are not the only club willing to take him to England.
It’s said the Reds have the competition from Manchester United and Manchester City, not to mention the interest from Real Madrid.
The newspaper claims that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has already made it known that Inácio is ‘non-negotiable’, although the Lions ‘can’t do anything’ in case his release clause is triggered.
So if Liverpool are really coming for him in January, the only way to get the transfer done is by paying the €60m that protects the player’s contract.
Otherwise, they’d need to wait until the end of the season and see if there’s any chance the Lisbon side would negotiate him for less.
