Liverpool are interested in a move for Lille defender Sven Botman and were in contact with the centre back in November.
The Reds are looking likely to sign a centre back in the January transfer window, having lost both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk to long-term injuries.
They have subsequently been linked to a long list of potential targets, with players in Germany, Italy and the Netherlands all named as potential options.
We can now add a player in France to that list, with Foot Mercato stating they have shown interest in Lille’s Botman.
The Dutchman has been a big hit at the Ligue 1 club since arriving from Ajax in the summer, and his performances have been picked up on by Liverpool.
FM, backing up claims in England, state that they ‘expressed their interest’ in the centre back to the player’s representative and contacted him during November.
They are not the only ones to do so, with Inter Milan also having been in touch as they look to bolster their squad.
Botman could be available for around €30m, with Lille considered a club ‘where you can do your shopping at a lower cost’ because of their dire finances.
That price is seen as a massive bargain given Liverpool were ‘prepared’ to pay €50m for him before discovering the financial situation at the club.
Lille, for their part, are insistent that there is no need or will for them to sell players but that could be tested by the ‘economic reality’ of the transfer window and offers for their star players.
