Liverpool, not content with looking back on their performance against Arsenal with a great big grin, are planning to make the most of the transfer window before it closes.

After tentative claims of Liverpool interest in AC Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, L’Equipe now report Liverpool have made an offer for the player.

That offer stands at €72m plus a further €8m in bonuses. There’s a couple of reasons it’s so high.

Firstly, we’re now in a post-Neymar economy, in which every good footballer seems to cost more. Secondly, Monaco have been determined to keep the player and turned down a succession of approaches this summer.

Arsenal have been the most insistent, but Arsene Wenger publicly gave up on the chase last week. Signing Lemar would see Jurgen Klopp beat Wenger on and off the pitch in a space of a few days.

To keep Didier Deschamps happy, everything would have to be completed today, with the French manager saying he doesn’t want any players leaving national team camp to sort out a move.
