Liverpool are ‘still interested’ in RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer but will likely face competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.
That’s according to SportBILD, who cover the player today as part of a look at Bayern’s transfer plans in the coming months.
They say that Laimer is ‘at the top of the list’ for Bayern, with Julian Nagelsmann a big fan and identifying him as a player he wanted in the summer.
Laimer has verbally agreed a deal to make the move next summer after staying at Leipzig in the summer.
They have been trying to get him to sign a new contract as his current deal expires at the end of this season but this has been quickly rebuffed by the player and he is now eyeing up what opportunities may be available to him next summer.
He will be free to negotiate with clubs around Europe regarding a free transfer for the summer window from January 1st and Liverpool may be one of his options.
They were also keen in the summer and alongside Bayern are ‘also interested’ in his signature, with SportBILD saying they are ‘still dabbling’ in the matter.
What this means exactly isn’t made clear but presumably the Reds have remained in contact with various parties and made it clear they’re still keen if the player is open to it.
Liverpool’s midfield certainly is seen as something of a weak point in need of strengthening and a free (or cheap) deal for a player of Laimer’s quality could be the perfect way to do that.
