Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij is ignoring interest from Liverpool who have been in contact with his agent Mino Raiola about a possible move.
That’s according to FC Inter News, who say the defender’s goal has always been to renew his deal with Antonio Conte’s side.
De Vrij has established himself as a leader on and off the pitch for the Nerazzurri since arriving on a free transfer from Lazio in 2018 and was voted the best defender in Serie A last season.
His ‘impeccable’ behaviour has made him a firm favourite at the club, with him even described as a ‘classic positive example’ for children too.
He is similarly ‘happy’ in Milan, and FC Inter News say it is a love ‘destined’ to last much longer than his current deal, which expires in 2023.
Indeed, his goal has always been to renew his contract, and that will be the case, with the player refusing to take ‘the sirens of Liverpool’ into consideration.
According to the website, they have asked his agent Mino Raiola for ‘information’ about the player, but he has ignored those calls, and it is now ‘inevitable’ he will sign a new deal until 2025 that will see a ‘retouching’ of his contract to €5.2m plus bonuses.
Those terms were defined at a summit a few weeks ago, during which the foundations of an agreement between the club and player were laid.
All that is needed is a signature, leaving Liverpool to look elsewhere in their ongoing hunt for a new centre back to cover the loss of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
