Alisson’s performances for Liverpool this season could lead to an uncomfortable summer, with summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili not intending to be a number two.

That’s according to Cadena SER, who report that the Valencia goalkeeper could end up back out on loan next season if Alisson doesn’t depart.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was the hero of night in the 1-0 win over Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday, with a tally of nine saves earning him the plaudits and leading some to declare him the best ever.

The goalkeeper has been back to his best this season, offering ‘brutal reliability’ that makes it seem unlikely he’ll be leaving Anfield anytime soon. The fact he has a contract until June 2027 also aids that belief.

The problem is Mamardashvili was signed last summer as his replacement, and he does not want to be a substitute at whatever club he’s at.

Thus, if Alisson doesn’t depart, he may have to be loaned out once again. Liverpool already sent him back to Valencia this season and could repeat that or send him to a different club.

Cadena SER also argue that Mamardashvili needs to ‘clear his head’ and focus on improving, with him needing to improve his current level even before he joins Liverpool officially.

Alisson’s performance will not have gone unnoticed, though, with the 32-year-old shining in Paris and leading to questions about what happens next season. Right now, the Brazilian is offering up a ‘mental challenge’ to the man who’s supposed to replace him.
