As you’ve probably read a few times, Liverpool’s new signing Marcelo Pitaluga has an interesting connection with Alisson.

At Brazilian side Fluminense, the teenager was a teammate of Muriel, who’s the elder brother of the Reds’ star.

That’s why at the start of the year, Alisson was in Rio de Janeiro to keep his shape at the club, and all three of them spent some time together in some training sessions.

So when Pitaluga’s transfer to Liverpool was confirmed this month by the Brazilian club, we wondered if Alisson had something to do with the signing.

Someone at Fluminense’s press conference on Tuesday night thought the same. Because Muriel was asked about the move, and confirmed that his brother may have helped the Reds to take a decision.

“I believe Alisson must have contributed with what he saw”, said Muriel (via UOL). “Pitaluga is there on his merits. Liverpool had been watching him for a long time.”

“We know closely the potential he has, the great goalkeeper he is and, even more, what he will achieve. In addition to the four lines, he’s an excellent boy, from a good family, down to earth, he’s not dazzled, he works hard. I’m sure he’ll make history in football. We got very happy with that.

“I’m also happy that he will be a teammate of Alisson, who will be able to help, accompany him. He’s a boy who loves to learn, is always listening and working. I’m very happy with his success, he deserves it.”

Reports from Brazil said Pitaluga travelled to Liverpool at the weekend, but there are still no updates on when his signing will be unveiled by the club.

He’s expected to sign a three-year contract.
