Scoring a great solo goal in Liverpool’s 4-3 loss to Bournemouth at the weekend, Divock Origi will have certainly impressed Jürgen Klopp, even if he did miss a chance to equalise very late on.

The young Belgian striker, who played an integral part in Liverpool’s Europa League run last season, has found himself on the bench more often than not this year, mostly due to Liverpool’s great form and lack of midweek games.

However, with Philippe Coutinho out with an injury, Klopp relied on his backup striker, much to the pleasing of Origi’s father, who gave an interview to Walfoot on Monday night about his son’s time on Merseyside.

Explaining the German manager ‘truly believes’ in Divock’s ability, Mike Origi also said his son was ‘happy’ even if the team were unable to hold on when they were 3-1 up.

Trying to break through at Liverpool, however, ‘remains an objective’.

He said: “Liverpool is a big club, the competition is crazy. Divock is going to grow and become a better footballer. He had to wait for a teammate to be injured, but now, he’s grabbed the opportunity with both hands.”

Giving ‘100% in training’ and with Coutinho out for the foreseeable future, the 21-year-old should get a solid run of games in the first-team, and, regardless of results, if he scores, he’ll end up staying there.
