The Real Madrid friendly press refer to international breaks as the ‘FIFA Virus’ as the club send players around the world and invariably welcome some back in a worse condition than what they left in.

It’s a problem many top clubs face and managers will be waiting nervously, hoping not to get a message that one of their crucial players has picked up a knock.

Jurgen Klopp will be concerned to hear that Georginio Wijnaldum had to leave Dutch national team training early on Wednesday after picking up a head injury. Wijnaldum went up for an aerial duel and came out of it with a knock.

Voetbal International are reporting the incident, and though they don’t make it sound overly serious, it’s unclear whether the Liverpool player will be able to face Bulgaria on Saturday.

The Netherlands need to get a result in their World Cup Qualifier against Bulgaria and will hope they can count on Wijnaldum. Lazio’s Stefan de Vrij also had to leave the training session, suffering from an ankle injury.
