Jurgen Klopp is weather. He bounds into a situation and immediately changes everything about it because of his own force of nature.
At Borussia Dortmund, Klopp’s sunshine and storms came out when needed and guided to the club to a period of success which will be remembered for a long time. And then when Klopp’s outlook at Dortmund changed, when he tired, everything around him turned gloomy and an exit had to happen.
Things are much brighter at Liverpool, with Klopp’s nature immediately enthusing players and supporters alike. Even if last season things didn’t go as well as hoped on the pitch, the feeling had changed, and optimism saw sunshine on the horizon.
Speaking to German magazine SportBild, Emre Can has been asked about Liverpool’s trip to Barcelona, and he explained it’s all part of the plan to instil ‘Klopp-Feeling’ at the club. With SportBild talking about club Christmas parties, Can explained the Barca trip wasn’t in that category.
“The two days in Barcelona were more of a team-building action. It helps the team to get even closer together. Jurgen Klopp immediately recognised this. Since he’s been here, the players are intensifying their time together. Even the birthdays of the children of us players are now celebrated together. This ‘Klopp-Feeling’ is good for all of us, you can see it on the pitch.”
Can himself feels he’s benefitting from having Klopp at the club, and is enjoying playing in a more attacking role for Liverpool: “Jurgen Klopp has pushed me from the six position to the eight position, so I am now more automatically in the offensive. The most important thing remains for me to direct the game, only then do goals come.”
