Emre Can’s super goal against Watford, to secure Liverpool a 1-0 win, has seen the German midfielder thrust firmly into the spotlight.
Jurgen Klopp has spoken about a potential new contract for Can and how he can build his game to become crucial for Liverpool now, and even better in the future. Can’s current Liverpool contract runs until June 2018, which gives the club some genuine worries over the player’s future.
Arguably it means Can’s value has diminished already, and there’s the chance of losing him for nothing appearing on the horizon.
Right now, that doesn’t look the way things are going, and Emre Can has spoken to German newspaper Bild about how great he’s feeling at the moment. The chat was prompted by the player’s wonder goal, but it’s being injury free which seems to have Can the happiest.
“It is very nice, a good feeling for every professional to be without pain,” Can told Bild. “The first seven, eight months were very difficult for me because I always dragged the calf injury. It was only in the last four or five games that I was able to play free.”
The long term issue is clearly something which Can feels has hampered his season for Liverpool. Being fit is better than the goal for Can: “I’d take the joy of being free of pain, over the fact that I have a dream goal.”
It’s ok Emre, you don’t have to choose: You’ve got both.
