Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk insists he has not had any limits put on him by the club during this international break.
The Dutch defender is back as part of the Netherlands squad for this international break, having missed out on Euro 2020 this summer as he worked to return from his long-term knee injury.
For a while, it appeared he could be a part of the squad for the tournament, having returned to training a few weeks ahead of it.
However, that idea was quickly shot down by Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp, who insisted that the defender needed to take things slowly with his rehabilitation.
That worked out for the best as Van Dijk was given the summer to get fully fit, something which has helped him return for the Reds at the beginning of this season.
Now he’s away on international duty and revealed to Algemeen Dagblad he feels ‘back to his old self’, with no restrictions from his club.
“I need matches, and I get them now at Liverpool,” he said.
“I have not made any agreements with the club about how much I will play in the national team, but I have talked about it with the coach.
“We keep in good contact this week. I am especially excited about it.”
