Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has insisted they’re not thinking about the title yet, with Arne Slot insisting they don’t either.
Voetbal Nieuws cover comments from the forward to Viaplay, in which he insists nobody at Liverpool is mentioning the title yet.
Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table heading into this weekend’s game, three points ahead of Manchester City with a record of eight wins, on draw and one defeat so far.
Arne Slot has enjoyed a flying start to life at the club since replacing Jurgen Klopp in the summer, with the Reds also top of the Champions League table.
Hopes of a title challenge have been increased by Arsenal and Manchester City both dropping points in recent week too. In fact, Mikel Arteta’s side are currently seven points behind Liverpool and fifth in the table.
Title credentials will be tested over the coming weeks as Liverpool take on Aston Villa, Manchester City, Newcastle and Tottenham before the end of December. There’s also the matter of a Merseyside derby.
Slot, though, appears to be ensuring nobody gets carried away at this moment in time, at least according to Gakpo.
“No, it’s still very early,” he said when asked if anyone is discussing the title.
“Ultimately we are just doing well. The coach looks at every match as if we have not played another match yet. He demands 100% from us in every match.
“We do not look at the rankings, but at things that we have to do better. It is also his strength how he conveys that. We just have to win matches, because we know how difficult it can be.”
