‘Sporting want Markovic’ is the front page story of Record on Wednesday. The Portuguese club’s manager Jorge Jesus wants to work with the Serbian attacker again, and now waits for Liverpool’s response to a loan deal.
Markovic was already coached by Jesus during the player’s only year at Benfica, when he had a great season and helped the Eagles to win the Portuguese league title. At the end of the campaign, he was sold to Liverpool for €25m.
Then he spent last season on loan at Ferbernahce, who according to Record tried to buy him for €25m again, but Liverpool said no. The Portuguese newspaper says the Premier League club see Markovic as having a huge potential.
Jesus’ talks with the 22-year-old reportedly started in April, when they met face to face and the manager asked if he wanted to join him at Sporting. The answer was positive, so the negotiations with the winger’s agent have been happening since them.
Markovic’s wages are considered to be too high for Sporting, and that’s the reason why the Portuguese side only want a loan deal. As Jurgen Klopp has picked the player for the pre-season, it’s still unknown if the German boss will let him go out again.
It’s all in the manager’s hands.
