Liverpool recently sent a scout to Italy to get a lowdown on Sassuolo attacker Grégoire Defrel, according to claims in the Italian media. The 24-year-old has in the past been linked with Liverpool’s local rivals Everton when he was playing for Cesena.

TMW have confirmed Liverpool recently sent officials to watch Defrel with him impressing for the Serie A side this season. The Merseyside club have made previous trips to Italy to watch the player this season, and it now seems, at least according to the claims, they are stepping up their pursuit for him.

It’s also been claimed Arsenal are showing an interest in Defrel, and that both Premier League sides also have their eye on Genoa forward Leonardo Pavoletti.

Last year we reported Everton were among a number of Premier League clubs reported to be on the scouting list that attended the game between Cesena and Lazio. At the time it was claimed Everton held talks with Cesena with regards to signing Defrel.

However, that summer Defrel signed for Sassuolo for a fee in the region of €5m, and the 25-year-old has continued to impress for the Serie A side.
