Liverpool have made a ‘great offer’ for Brazilian youngster Rayan but have been beaten to the signing of the 18-year-old by Barcelona.
That’s according to E-Noticies, who say Barcelona have won the race for the highly rated forward and beaten Liverpool in the process.
According to their information, Rayan had a ‘great offer’ on the table from Liverpool and Olympique Lyon but has elected to move to the Camp Nou in what will be an €18m move.
They see the move as a major success for the Catalans, who are continuing to build for the future and have secured their latest target on that front.
It’s also seen as a major middle finger to Athletic Club Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who they say is now firmly no longer a target after rejecting the club in the summer.
According to the ‘there is no turning back’ and the signing of Rayan is the winger’s ‘worst nightmare’ as it closes the door completely on him.
Barcelona are reportedly standing up with the signing of Rayan and saying they no longer want Williams and Rayan is ‘much better’ than him anyway. The fact he is also willing to turn down Liverpool shows how much he wants the move and doesn’t have doubts like Nico did.
It’s a bit of a personal dig from E-Noticies at the Athletic star, with the whole piece a little personal and strange given it’s actually about a different player entirely.
That might just be the Catalan media taking their opportunity to throw daggers and have a bit of a strop regarding a player turning them down, while simultaneously announcing to everyone that Barcelona have apparently beaten Liverpool to a signing.
Either way, that latter bit is the main point and it’s something worth keeping an eye on as Europe continues to plunder Brazil for its talent.
