Liverpool’s refusal to ‘pay any compensation’ to Loris Karius have scuppered a potential January move to SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
That’s according to Kicker, quoted by Fussball Transfers, who say the German side have been forced to abandon any ideas regarding a move.
Karius remains out of the picture at Anfield, having been replaced by Alisson Becker and supplanted in the backup role by Caoimhín Kelleher.
He had been linked with a move back to Germany, where he played earlier in his career, with Fürth named as an option last month.
They need a replacement for goalkeeper Marius Funk after he suffered a serious knee injury, and Sports director Rachid Azzouzi publicly labelled the Liverpool man ‘a very, very good goalkeeper’ when asked about a possible transfer.
Kicker now report that they’ve had to ‘say goodbye’ to any hopes of a deal, though, as Liverpool don’t want to ‘pay any compensation’ to the 28-year-old.
That means a transfer is ‘probably not financially feasible’ for the Bundesliga club, and they’ll have to abandon their interest, leaving Karius tied to Liverpool until the end of the season.
