Liverpool are among the clubs in the mix to sign Barcelona’s Franck Kessié in the summer, according to AS.

The midfielder has been given the permission to leave the Camp Nou, a year after joining them as a free agent. He has held talks with Xavi Hernández, who has explained to him what forced the La Liga side to arrive at this decision.

Kessié will be the first one to leave in the next window and Barca have a few weeks to finish finalising the operation that satisfies all parties. Liverpool and Inter Milan are named as his suitors.

The Blaugrana haven’t yet received a formal offer for the Ivory Coast international, but have maintained informal contacts with some clubs, including the Reds, who are said to be ‘very receptive’ at the possibility of adding him to their squad.

Jürgen Klopp needs a ‘physical midfielder’ next season and the 26-year-old would fit his requirement.

Barcelona need a minimum of €35m to part ways with the former AC Milan man in the next window, which may not be an issue for the Merseyside club.

AS’ report on Liverpool comes two days after InterLive.it reported the Reds could beat Inter to signing the player by making a ‘cash offer’ to Barcelona.
