Real Madrid are not considering a move for Liverpool chief Michael Edwards, despite reports to the contrary.
That’s according to Real Madrid fan website Defensa Central, who say the Spanish side aren’t as keen as has been made out because they don’t actually have a place for him.
Edwards is one of the most highly regarded sporting directors in the game, having been a key player in Liverpool’s resurgence in recent years.
A string of top signings such as Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and of course Mohamed Salah have put Liverpool back at the top of the pile with a transfer system that is the envy of all of Europe.
So much so, in fact, that recent reports in England had stated Real Madrid were keen to make a move for Edwards, who is set to leave Anfield next summer.
They state that Madrid have ‘ruled out’ signing Edwards, and there is ‘no possibility’ of him ending up at the Santiago Bernabeu.
That’s because there is no place for him at the club, with no sporting director position currently in place and no plans for one to be introduced, meaning any move is ‘unfeasible’.
This is no slight on Edwards, whose work stands for itself, but more a case of Madrid not needing or wanting someone in that position at this moment in time.
The role is one that has been shared among various employees to great effect in recent years, and there is a feeling there simply isn’t the need to change the setup.
Of course, opinions can always change, but it seems for the time being, at least Edwards won’t be swapping Liverpool for the Spanish capital.
