There was a brief period when it seemed Liverpool were going to forget all about Alisson and place their full trust in Loris Karius to be their goalkeeper next season.

Then came May 26th, a day the German goalkeeper will remember for the rest of his life for all the wrong reasons.

We’ll leave it at that, but his performance in that game led to a new spate of articles appearing about the Reds wanting a new goalkeeper, and Friday is no different.

Gazzetta dello Sport explain Alisson remains a target for Liverpool as well as Real Madrid, with the Premier League club ready to ‘cover him in gold’ in order to sign him.

Over in Rome, Monchi and AS Roma would much prefer to keep their new star, ready to up his wages from €1.5m/year to €4m/year, but it appears the interest from abroad, where he’d most likely get more money, is slowing everything down.

With that in mind, the Serie A side are already looking around at goalkeepers to potentially replace the Liverpool target, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Aréola and Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno described as the two likeliest options.

Both would like cost around €20-25m, which shouldn’t be an issue were Roma to get the amount they want for Alisson, believed to be around €70m.

Manchester United are also mentioned briefly, but that’s only in case David De Gea goes to Real Madrid.

So, after all this, we’re basically back to square one.
