According to a claim in the Italian media, Liverpool are in the race to sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolò Barella.

The youngster has impressed for the Serie A side in recent seasons which has brought him to the attention of other clubs, including Liverpool.

La Nuova Sardegna have reported on the latest developments over the future of Barella with claims the Premier League side are interested in the 21 year old. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly sent scouts to watch the Italy international and he’s received several reports on the central midfielder, leaving him ‘convinced’.

It’s reported Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini is aware of the interest in his player but will only start to negotiate if offers of €50m are tabled. It’s claimed Liverpool are ready to make a bid for Barella.

However, the Merseyside club should expect to face competition for Barella after reports AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are all tracking him.

Barella has made nearly eighty league appearance for Cagliari and has been capped twice by Italy.
