Fasten your seat-belts Liverpool, you’ve been picked out by A Bola for a big summer transfer rumour. Nobody loves a rumour more than the Portuguese media, and with clubs in the country providing a steady stream of information to their favoured outlets, nothing stays secret for very long.
Of course, that also means there’s a lot of player marketing work done by the media, but if a footballer is leaving or arriving in Portugal then the vast majority of the time the story will be led by a Portuguese sport newspaper.
Liverpool get a mention on the front cover of Wednesday’s A Bola, on which it’s claimed there’s an interest in Gelson Martins. Inside it’s explained Jurgen Klopp is convinced on the player, and Liverpool are ‘preparing to launch an attack’ on the 22 year old right winger.
Gelson has a buyout clause of €60m, but Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho will start talking at around €50m. In fact, he’d probably snatch the collective Liverpool hand off for such an amount early in the transfer window.
Liverpool ‘have a lot of money to invest’ believe A Bola, and Gelson has been identified. It’s claimed Liverpool scouted Sporting last season, and there’s truth in that, but they weren’t there every week.
