Whenever a new story comes out, the last thing we at Sport Witness want is for it to be rushed and factually incorrect.
That’s why we might not always be the first on the scene, because we try and find out what’s really been said, as facts are often twisted in a rush to be first and get a tastier headline.
This is pretty much what happened on Wednesday morning when Twitter account BrazilStat relayed a bit of information in Gazzetta dello Sport that ‘Liverpool and PSG have entered the race’ to sign Roma’s Alisson.
The goalkeeper has had a very good season so far, stepping in admirably following Wojciech Szczesny’s departure, and it’s no surprise a few clubs have taken an interest.
After all, what BrazilStat said isn’t wrong, as that’s exactly what Gazzetta dello Sport say in their Wednesday edition, except this has then been turned into a flurry of articles claiming the move could happen in January.
That isn’t what’s been said. At all.
In fact, Gazzetta dello Sport make it very clear that if a move were to happen, ‘it would only be discussed in the summer and, above all, only if an irresistible offer arrived’.
The amount Roma want isn’t revealed, but they use Ederson’s €40m and the fact Alisson is his number two for Brazil as a way of suggesting he’d be expensive.
As for the ‘sacrifice Mignolet’ part you might have seen elsewhere, that’s also in there, but, again, it’s for the summer, and only if Liverpool get the €100m+ for Coutinho from Barcelona.
