Liverpool could make a move for Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez this summer if they were to lose Mohamed Salah.
That’s according to journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who says Liverpool is a ‘possibility’ for the Argentine striker.
Martinez remains a key player for Inter Milan and has 16 goals and two assists in all competitions this season so far.
Inter are not that keen on selling him, but recent reports from Italy have indicated that, due to the financial situation at the club, that stance could change in the summer.
It’s been made clear that if a big club were to offer an adequate price to sign the striker, then Inter would consider a sale, particularly as it would give them more room to sign Paulo Dybala.
Liverpool have not been brought into the mix as yet, but they have been linked on numerous occasions in the past.
For instance, back at the end of February, it was stated that they were monitoring him closely ahead of the summer transfer window.
The belief was that he could become a target if Mohamed Salah were to leave Anfield, with the Egyptian yet to sign a new contract and looking far away from doing so at this moment in time.
That’s left Liverpool concerned they’ll have to sell this year to avoid losing him on a free in 2023, and Ceccarini says if that happens, Martinez could be an option.
“As for Lautaro, the club’s (Inter’s) position is very clear,” he told Tuttomercatoweb.
“The Argentine striker remains central and fundamental in the Nerazzurri project, but in the face of a big offer, Inter will still make a reflection.
“We have to understand if a big European name will come forward concretely. Liverpool is a possibility, especially if Salah should leave at the end of this season.”
