As Gazzetta Dello Sport today writes about the situation of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, they make it very clear that it’s Liverpool who lead the race to sign him.
The Italian outlet point out that many clubs, such as Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Roma are all interested in the player, but his personal choice for the Reds should weigh heavily on his future.
Liverpool are considered to be in ‘pole position’ because Zakaria ‘dreams’ of a move to the Premier League and would like to work under Jurgen Klopp.
The big reason why Zakaria should soon move to one of those sides is his contract situation, as according to Gazzetta, the player has already ‘notified’ his club that he’s not signing an extension to the deal which expires in the summer.
Borussia Monchengladbach are then in that classic situation where they must decide between selling him in January for a low price or continue trying to agree a new deal and risk losing him for free at the end of the season.
It’s said that in case of a move in the winter market, Zakaria would cost between €8m and €10m, making it a rather attractive deal for Liverpool or any other club who are interested.
