Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday was much of a muchness. Neither side can really say they deserved to win and there weren’t any controversial incidents would could see one team send blame to the referee.
It was two top European football teams cancelling each other out, without the addition of a moment of magic or unfortunate mistake to change the deadlock.
Most who watched the game would think it was pretty even. The onus was on Jurgen Klopp’s men to get a good result at home, but also on the German side to get themselves an away goal.
It’s now finely balanced ahead of the second leg.
Bild have given out their player ratings, and they’re very different to what you’re probably used to. Whilst most ratings are out of 10, or sometimes 5, Bild use the German school grading system.
1 means very good, 2 is good, 3 is average, 4 is passable but still lacking, 5 is deficient and 6 is insufficient. A 6 is the lowest possible grade and, taking it back to the school grades, it means that not only were things not up to standard, but there was even a failure to understand the basics.
Bayern come out of it better, and some of the Liverpool ratings seem harsh.
Andrew Robertson, along with James Rodriguez, got the worst mark of the night, his performance getting the 5 deficient mark.
Mohamed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum were given 4s.
Not one Liverpool player was better than a 3, believe Bild, although some Bayern players did get better marks.
Given the same newspaper handed out four 4s, five 3s, and two 2s to Tottenham last week, after their brilliant 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, there could be a suspicion Bild are a little biased towards German clubs.
