Liverpool star Darwin Núñez was Uruguay’s hero in the 2-0 win over Brazil last night, but there’s concern over fitness ahead the match against Everton.

With a goal and an assist, the Reds’ striker managed to end the 22-year taboo with his national team’s win.

It turns out that when quoted by El Observador, Núñez said something that will worry Liverpool ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton.

The player revealed that despite all his happiness for the win, he ended the came with cramp.

“It was a difficult, direct rival. It was worth everyone’s effort. We played a great game when it came to attacking and defending. Today we got the win. We hadn’t beaten Brazil for 22 years, they’re a very strong team, that’s for sure. We made history and now it’s time to celebrate and go back to our clubs.

“The truth is that to earn the position of nine I have to work hard, not settle for anything and that’s what I try to do when I come to the national team. I come to leave everything on the pitch, and today it showed. I ended up a bit cramped at the end. I’m happy with the win.”

There have been no signs that Núñez had any kind of injury, but after such tiring games at the national team, we wonder if he’ll have enough rest for such an important match early on Saturday.

The striker stayed on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes, both in the 2-2 draw against Colombia as in the 2-2 win over Brazil. He scored in both games and comes out of the international break as Uruguay’s hero.

With the absence of Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani, he’s showing they still have a quality number nine.

However, cramp after 90 minutes in the early hours of Wednesday is not a great sign ahead of Liverpool’s Saturday lunchtime kick-off against Everton.
