Xherdan Shaqiri has never been afraid to give it straight back to those who criticise him, as the Swiss media are well aware of.

Therefore, they like to poke him with a stick to get reactions about criticism from others. It’s a well trodden path and happened when the current Liverpool player was under scrutiny at Bayern Munich and then Inter Milan.

In an article from Swiss newspaper Aargauer Zeitung, Shaqiri was asked: ‘What happens to you when you get heavily criticised, as recently by the Neville brothers?’

The Liverpool player loaded his gun and answered: “It goes in one ear and out the other. I read things, but I often find out how incompetent they are. Mostly those people who are jealous criticise. Or those who do not like you.”

AZ then put it to Shaqiri that he’s well known for reacting harshly to critics, to which he said: “What does “harsh” mean? It’s right: I can express myself, if I disagree with something that is important to me.

“Everyone deserves criticism when playing badly. But everyone has to be treated the same. Certain media sometimes examine me more rigorously than others. It’s not only me that sees it that way. I never had any problems with the fans.”

Shaqiri also explained during the interview that he has no need to keep his chin up at the moment, he’s very happy with his situation at Liverpool and the settling in the process at the club.

The former Stoke City player clearly believes Jurgen Klopp has faith in him and that will become clearer as the season progresses.
