AS Roma interest in Xherdan Shaqiri has been reported since the winter market, and the Liverpool player is now ‘back in fashion’ at the Serie A club.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who detail Roma’s desire to sign the player, but also the problems the club are facing.

Suggestions from England that Liverpool are looking for €30m are presented as fanciful, and it’s thought the 27 year old will leave for ‘well below’ such a figure.

Should Roma manage to jump that hurdle, they then face the task of convincing the player. And it’s thought to be that which is the biggest problem.

Calciomercato state that when wages and bonuses are combined, Shaqiri currently earns €6m a year, a figure which will almost certainly be after tax.

Such an amount is considered to be way beyond the reach of Roma, who are looking to manage their salary costs carefully given the losses they’ve made due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Shaqiri also wants Champions League football, and with Roma currently fifth, that’s a long way from being guaranteed. Therefore, the Liverpool player would need to seriously drop his ‘economic and non-economic claims’ for a transfer to Roma to happen.

It’s likely going to depend on the competition, with it being stated Sevilla and CSKA Moscow are also keen.
