Since last night, Liverpool star Luis Diaz can be found in many headlines from the Colombian media, and not for a good reason.
During the national team’s 3-2 win in a friendly with Mexico, the Reds’ winger made a silly play which gave their opponents the chance to open the scoring.
Diaz not only lost the ball possession inside his own box, but also gave away a penalty, which was converted by Alexis Vega. That all happened only six minutes into the match.
So despite Colombia’s win, outlets such as El Tiempo now come up with stories about the ‘giant mistake’ made by the Liverpool player at the start of the game.
Meanwhile, website MSN gathered a few tweets from Mexico pundits and well known fans regarding Diaz’s penalty. One of them says that the player ‘did more for Mexico than for Liverpool’.
The Colombian media is still bitter that the national team have missed out on a spot at the World Cup, so as they work to rebuild the squads for the upcoming tournaments, any silly mistake will get heavy criticism from the local press.
