On September 18th, we brought you claims from Bild explaining Union Berlin’s interest in Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
It was reported the 23-year-old ‘rejected Greece’s top club PAOK Thessaloniki this week’ in favour of joining the German side.
Kicker now brings the latest development on this case, and it’s one that could result in a quick conclusion.
It’s claimed the Bundesliga club and the Reds have reached an agreement for the player to move on a season-long loan deal.
The German magazine states ‘if everything goes smoothly’, the Reds player’s temporary transfer should be made official before the start of Union Berlin’s league tie against Augsburg later today. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30pm BST.
Awoniyi arrived at the Merseyside club in 2015 and is yet to make an appearance for their first team. The attacker has been out on loan since then.
After a season-long loan spell at Mainz 05 last season, Awoniyi will return to Germany this summer, and spend the 2020/21 season on loan with Union Berlin.
