Divock Origi could fly to Milan next week to finalise his move from Liverpool, which he won’t deal with until after the Champions League final.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who say the Belgian will be the first purchase new Serie A champions AC Milan make this summer.
Origi bid a fond farewell to Liverpool over the weekend, being given a standing ovation at Anfield following the win over Wolves.
It’s long been known that he would be departing the club at the end of this season, with his contract set to expire and him keen on a new adventure elsewhere.
AC Milan are at the front of the queue for his signature, but a deal is yet to be wrapped up, and Corriere now explain why.
They say that Origi has elected to first ‘close his relationship’ with Liverpool before doing the necessary tasks to complete his move to Milan.
Thus is, he is waiting until after the Champions League final on Saturday, when the Reds take on Real Madrid in Paris, before sorting things out.
After that, he ‘could land in Milan’ to undergo medical examinations and then sign the four-year deal, worth €3.5m a year, that is on the table.
According to the newspaper, the striker has ‘refused more than one opportunity’ to join other clubs and had several offers from Premier League clubs. He ‘wanted to marry’ Milan ‘at all costs’ and intends to see that through.
His departure from Liverpool is something of a sad one, with Jurgen Klopp and the Reds squad sorry to see the striker go, given his contributions down the years.
However, he has decided now is the time to ‘relaunch himself’ away from Anfield and the new crowned Serie A champions are the perfect place to do so.
