With a contract at Liverpool expiring in the summer, there’s no clarity on Georginio Wijnaldum’s future at Anfield beyond this season.

Over the weekend, reports in England stated the midfielder has a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona. These claims were denied by the Catalan media on Monday.

The Netherlands international has denied having an agreement with the La Liga side.

“There is always talk of these things, of my future but, as I have said on other occasions, there is nothing new,” he told NOS, as quoted by Inter-News.it.

‘What Koeman wants’ is written in bold on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo, and they add that Ronald Koeman has made his needs clear to Barca’s Ramón Planes.

For the midfield, Koeman ‘sees a need for a footballer’ who can arrive and handle the pressure.

The former Everton manager has Wijnaldum’s name in his mind as the player ‘emerges again’ as a target for the Spanish club.

With Koeman wanting the Liverpool player, who will be available on a free transfer in the summer, Planes has included Wijnaldum in the list of options.

The Blaugrana’s interest in the Dutchman is ‘serious’, according to FcInterNews. Apart from Koeman’s side, Inter Milan are also looking at the former Newcastle United man.

As per the report, Antonio Conte’s side will ‘make their concrete move’ for the 30-year-old ‘in weeks’. For now, contacts have ‘exploratory and informative’ and the Serie A side haven’t tabled a concrete offer.

In the event Barcelona manage to convince the Dutchman to join them in the coming weeks, Wijnaldum will remain as an idea for the Nerazzuri. If not, Inter will try to involve themselves in the race to acquire the Liverpool player’s services from May.
