Back in January 2020, Napoli were desperately looking around for a left-back when they thought they would be able to offload Faouzi Ghoulam to a Premier League squad.
That never happened, however, as the Algerian stayed put and the Serie A side saw their prime target for the role, Konstantinos Tsimikas, head to Liverpool the following summer.
Since then, however, the Greek has barely played under Jürgen Klopp, who, understandably, prefers Andy Robertson in the role, which has rekindled rumours of Napoli’s interest in the left-back.
Gazzetta dello Sport, relayed by Napoli Piu, have the latest on that, and it appears the Serie A side have made the first move.
It’s believed Cristiano Giuntoli, their director of football, ‘has resumed contact with the entourage of Konstantinos Tsimikas’, who doesn’t want a repeat of last season going forward.
That’s why ‘he is considering the opportunity to say yes to Napoli’, in which case the Serie A transfer chief ‘will move towards his Liverpool counterparts, with whom he will try to initially negotiate a loan’.
