Following a poor first half of the season on loan at KAA Gent, Taiwo Awoniyi saw his deal with the Jupiler Pro League side cut short and a return to Liverpool took place.

However, the Nigeria U23 international didn’t waste any time in finding a new suitor, as Royal Excel Mouscron jumped at the chance to bring back the striker, who excelled (pun not intended) with them last season.

Already touting the move a few days ago, DH are now reporting Awoniyi is currently in Mouscron undergoing his medical ahead of the move being made official.

The club’s aim, as things stand, is to remain in Belgium’s top league, and they will be hoping the Liverpool loanee’s presence up front will help them get the goals they need to stay up.

The 21-year-old made 31 appearances for them last season, scoring 10 goals and picking up seven assists.

If he can do just half of that in the next six months, then maybe, just maybe, Mouscron will be able to stay up, currently sitting in 15th, just three points ahead of KSC Lokeren.
