Jürgen Klopp has long been an admirer of Kylian Mbappé and has been trying to get the Paris Saint-Germian forward to Liverpool for some years, according to various claims. The Reds manager has kept regular contact with the 22-year-old and his entourage.
On March 29th, AS reported the Merseyside club are ‘on the prowl’ for the France international. Three days later, Le Parisien explained Liverpool ‘continue to seduce’ their long-term target.
Both outlets have warned that the player will cost in excess of €100m, even though he has a year left on his contract at Parc des Princes.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James initially bought a 2% stake in Liverpool for €6m a decade ago. Earlier this year, James became a partner in Fenway Sports Group, the owners of the Premier League side.
James and Mbappé are both sponsored by Nike, who are also the main kit sponsor for the Anfield club.
Liverpool will host Real Madrid in the Champions League second leg quarter-final tie later today.
Wednesday’s edition of AS explains James will face Los Blancos in his own way, in another ‘game’, for signing Mbappé.
The Liverpool partner could have a role in helping the club make an attempt for Klopp’s long-term target.
James, Mbappé and Liverpool are three big names associated with Nike. The newspaper insinuates this could be a factor in helping the English club in their efforts to sign the PSG star over Real Madrid.
Whether or not James and Nike can help Liverpool to beat Real Madrid to Mbappé remains to be seen.
