In the lead to sign Alisson from AS Roma for a long time, Liverpool have now dropped out of pole position, overtaken by an eager Real Madrid.
That’s what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Tuesday, claiming the La Liga giants are ready to trump Jürgen Klopp’s club to the Brazilian shot stopper with a €60m bid.
As things stands, no official offer has been made by Florentino Pérez, but contact has been established between Real Madrid and Alisson’s entourage, and the desire to put the money on the table is there.
Liverpool are reported to have enquired about a month ago, with Klopp a big fan of his abilities, but that’s as far as it went for now.
Down the player’s end, Alisson is said to prefer the prospect of playing for Real Madrid than he is a move to Anfield.
Roma still have a say in all of this, and their desire has always been to keep their star goalkeeper for another year at least, and make him a key member of their squad, central to their project.
However, with the Spaniards prepared to spend heavy this summer after a relatively mediocre season by their standards, there’s only so much the Serie A side will be able to say no to.
It all depends when the bid comes, as they know a good World Cup would do wonders to Alisson’s price tag, so it’s in everyone’s interest to try and get a deal done beforehand.
Liverpool included.
