It appears that Liverpool’s chances of signing Jude Bellingham have finally disappeared, and they have Manchester City to blame.
That’s according to Florian Plettenberg, who took to Twitter to reveal that the Reds are now ‘out of the race’ for the England international.
The Sky Germany journalist explains that because of Manchester City and Real Madrid having driven the price up ‘exorbitantly’, Liverpool have pulled the plug on a potential deal.
It’s no secret the Anfield side need a new midfielder in the near future to strengthen their core, and the 19-year-old was widely seen as the ideal man for their game.
News #Bellingham: Been told that Real Madrid and #MCFC have driven the price up exorbitantly. From the point of view of the Liverpool bosses the total package (transfer fee + salary) was rated to high for his age. Liverpool is out of the race. #LFC @SkySportDE 🏴 pic.twitter.com/Sn3Tn18IJn

However, the Liverpool bosses felt the ‘total package’ comprising of the fee needed to convince Borussia Dortmund and his future wages was simply ‘too high’ for a player of his age.
Despite having all the talent in the world, it appears Jürgen Klopp’s team have decided enough is enough and are now likely to focus on more attainable targets, especially if Champions League football eludes them before the end of the current campaign.
It’s now a two horse race between Manchester City and Real Madrid, it seems.
