Liverpool have been dragged into the Kalidou Koulibaly saga, and not for the first time.

Gazzetta dello Sport push the Reds forward and say they ‘have not hidden their interest’ in signing the Napoli defender.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also credited with an interest, and it’s stated Koulibaly has ‘come to the end of his Neapolitan experience’.

It very much sounds like Napoli want to sell, having been against the player’s departure last summer. However, they may have left things too late.

Previously, the club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis had been against a sale, and has even claimed he’s rejected offers of more than €100m for the player.

Even if that were true, it seems wholly unlikely he could expect such a figure now, and was the case before the Covid-19 situation hit clubs financially. Koulibaly turns 29 years of age in June and hasn’t had his best season, so a fee around €100m is unlikely to happen.

Gazzetta say Jurgen Klopp would be willing to use Dejan Lovren as part of the transfer, and that’s Liverpool’s plan. Napoli are only looking for cash, and even if they accepted Lovren, the amount of money they’d want on top would again likely be unrealistic.

Liverpool are potentially being dragged in as an attempt from Napoli to make it seem like there’s a big market for Koulibaly.
