On January 2nd, AS stated Liverpool will take advantage of any small opportunity to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé.
Two days ago, Mundo Deportivo reported the Reds’ owners are ready to make an effort to try and secure his services.
The forward’s deal expires after this season and the trend, as of now, is to leave the Ligue 1 winners next summer. That’s according to L’Equipe, who state Real Madrid and Liverpool are his options.
Two years ago, the La Liga sides came close to signing the France international, before he snubbed them and signed a new deal at PSG in May 2021.
Although Mbappé is their main target, Real Madrid want to avoid a similar situation this time around. They remain hopeful that having several young talents in their squad could seduce the former AS Monaco man to join them.
The Spanish giants want to know his decision before January 15th and this was also reported by AS earlier this week. L’Equipe state this deadline hasn’t pleased the attacker or his entourage, which could give hope to Liverpool.
It’s claimed Liverpool ‘would like to play spoilsport’ between PSG’s plan to retain him and Real Madrid’s desire to secure his services next summer.
L’Equipe add Jürgen Klopp’s side, for their part, have ‘never broken contact’ with Mbappé’s entourage. This again indicates he’s yet to make a future decision, which is why the report states the track leading him to the Premier League shouldn’t be completely ruled out.
It needs to be seen what Real Madrid really plan to do if Mbappé doesn’t respond in the next few days. Liverpool could keep a close watch to see if there would be any developments and meanwhile, try to convince him to join them.
Of course it’s a long shot, but the French media continue to insist on Liverpool interest.
