Liverpool will need at least €60m if they want to tempt Borussia Dortmund into selling Donyell Malen in the near future.
That’s according to SportBILD, who cover reports from England about Liverpool’s interest in Malen being reignited in the near future.
The newspaper reports that Malen has ‘shot himself into the focus’ of top European clubs with his performances this season and, as a result, there are now reports that some could now make a move for him.
Liverpool would be among them according to reports in England, having already shown an interest in the past and thought about a move before Malen eventually joined Dortmund.
Malen is well accustomed to life in the UK after playing for Arsenal’s U18 and U23 teams from 2015 to 2017 before moving to PSV Eindhoven and kickstarting his professional career.
Klopp is believed to see him as the ideal back up for Mohamed Salah but, unfortunately for Liverpool, a deal wouldn’t be an easy one to get done.
That’s because Dortmund are ‘relatively relaxed’ when it comes to Malen as he’s tied down to a contract until 2026, so still has three years left on his deal.
That means they have no pressing need to sell or enter into negotiations and ‘only a sum of over €60m’ would be enough to make those in charge at the German club ‘flinch’.
There’s no indication, not yet at least, that Liverpool would be willing to pay such a fee or are even thinking about doing so at this moment in time.
Thus, it’s all calm in Germany and Dortmund for the time being, despite renewed reports about the Reds and Klopp’s interest.
