Two days ago, we covered claims made in the Spanish press, which stated Jürgen Klopp has requested Liverpool sign Marco Asensio this summer.

The winger’s deal expires in 2023 and he’s not received an offer from Real Madrid to sign a new deal. He has also not got any concrete proposals from other clubs.

That’s according to Sport, who state the La Liga winners will not allow the 26-year-old to spend the last year of his contract at the club.

When discussing the Spain international’s suitors, Liverpool are named as one of the ‘most interested’ teams. However, the Reds have not made any firm offer to sign him.

The ex-Mallorca man hopes Los Blancos will let him leave for a bargain price this summer, just like they plan to let go of Luka Jović. The striker will join Fiorentina as a free agent, but the Champions League winners will receive 50% of a fee from his future sale.

Reports in Italy state AC Milan are keen on Asensio, and this is relayed by the newspaper. Sport then state it will be ‘essential’ for the player to lower his salary demands [between €6m and €7m], but also for Real Madrid to reduce the asking price, so that the Serie A winners can sign him.

For this reason, Carlo Ancelotti’s side prefer to sell Asensio to the Premier League, so that they can earn a better fee.

In the event the attacker fails to sort out his future soon, he will have to join pre-season training.

Asensio is aware he will have few options to play regularly at Real Madrid.

This will also be the case at Anfield, if he ends up moving to Liverpool, where Klopp ‘wants to add him to his project’ at the Merseyside club.
