French newspaper L’Equipe have a rather big feature on Rachid Ghezzal in their Wednesday edition. The 24 year old has a contract with Lyon which runs until June 2017, which obviously puts his future under some question.
For several months Ghezzal’s future has been swinging from an extended stay at Lyon, and subsequent contract extension, an exit this summer, or hanging around until his contract ends and leaving for free.
Having come through the ranks at Lyon, Ghezzal largely failed to establish himself and grow his career. However, things changed for the second half of last season, with Bruno Genesio being appointed as manager.
Ghezzal’s better form has not only made Lyon more inclined to keep him, but also attracted interest from elsewhere.
L’Equipe quote Jean Michel Aulas this week complaining that Ghezzal hasn’t come back from a holiday to Dubai when expected. Ghezzal isn’t doing anything wrong, it’s his time off, but Aulas had expected him back and to sign a renewal.
If he doesn’t sign soon then the Lyon owner has said he’ll go on the transfer list.
The French newspaper say Middlesbrough and Liverpool made approaches to Lyon in January, along with Celta Vigo and Villarreal. Further clubs are expected to add their interest after Aulas’ comments.
