Liverpool were strongly linked last year with a move for Benfica’s Eduardo Salvio, which was said to have been scuppered by the player’s serious knee injury. However, it didn’t take long for the Portuguese press to suggest a deal could be revived.
In June of last year, Portuguese newspaper Diario De Noticias said there was still an agreement between Liverpool and Benfica for a January 2016 transfer, at a price of €35m. It’s a little scary to point out that at the time €35m worked out to be around £25m, but now it’s more like £32m.
Liverpool will no doubt still have their Salvio scouting file and could well be updating it.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that Liverpool were one of the clubs to send an official to the match between Benfica and Dinamo Kiev last night.
The Champions League tie finished 1-0. The scorer? Well, Salvio of course.
Salvio is 26 years of age, and from Argentina. He’s primarily a right footed right winger, able to play in a front three, and can also move more centrally. The footballer has a contract with Benfica until the end of June, 2019.
Whilst the Liverpool official may have had his eye on someone else, there’s every possibility Liverpool are keeping an eye on Salvio. The reports of an agreed deal were pretty insistent last time, and perhaps Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the player too.
